This sets which paddle traits we weigh most.
How the Paddle Selector works
Five quick questions, no sign-up: what you want more of, about where you play, where you win most of your points, your weight and arm comfort, and your budget. Every answer you pick is written into the page’s own URL, so Back, a reload or sharing the link all return you to exactly where you left off — nothing is saved to an account, because there is no account.
At the end you get three matches — a best fit, another strong option and either a value pick or a third alternative — each with the specific reason it was picked and one honest tradeoff. You can change any answer afterward and the matches update immediately.
What we ask
- Playstyle — This sets which paddle traits we weigh most.
- Level — A guess is fine. Newer players get more forgiving picks.
- Court zone — Kitchen players need touch and quick hands; baseline players need drive and stability.
- Weight and arm comfort — Lighter is quicker at the kitchen; heavier is more stable on drives.
- Budget — We only show paddles at or under the limit you pick.
How we rank your three matches
Every paddle in the catalog is scored on five measured traits — power, hand speed, forgiveness, touch and spin — the same numbers shown on each paddle’s own page. Your answers set how much each trait counts: picking “Control,” for example, weighs touch and forgiveness heavily, while “Power” weighs power and spin. Weight, core thickness and skill level adjust the score further, and so does shape if you pick one — an optional fine-tune offered after you see your results. Your budget works differently: it’s a hard limit, not a score input — a paddle over your budget is filtered out before scoring, never just marked down. A missing spec is treated as neutral and is never turned into a claim: if a paddle has no published number for a trait, that trait is left out of its “why it fits” line rather than guessed.
If fewer than three paddles meet every answer you gave, we first try raising your budget by one price tier. If that’s still not enough for three matches, we drop the budget limit and the USAP-approved filter together, and each pick says exactly what it misses (over budget, not on the approved list). Ties are broken alphabetically by paddle name, never by price or by which paddles pay us a commission — commissions never affect how paddles are ranked.

Questions about the matches
Does the Paddle Selector cost anything?
No. It is free, with no sign-up and no account — your answers live only in the page’s URL.
How are the three matches actually picked?
By scoring the live catalog against your five answers — see “How we rank your three matches” above. The same scoring code is used for every visitor; nothing is personalized beyond the answers you give.
What if nothing fits my exact budget?
We first try raising your budget by one price tier. If that’s still not enough for three matches, we drop the budget limit and the USAP-approved filter together, and say so on the results page, with each pick naming what it misses. You can also raise your budget yourself with the “Raise budget” option once you see your matches.
Does USAP approval affect my matches?
It can. USAP-approved-only turns on by default once you say you play at a 4.0 level or above (tournament or competitive play usually requires it); below that it is off by default. Either way, you can switch it on or off yourself on the results page.
Can I change an answer after I see my results?
Yes. Every answer stays editable from the results page, and your matches update right away.
Is this the same catalog as the paddle directory?
Yes — the paddle directory and the Paddle Selector read the same catalog and the same five-trait scores, so a result here is never a different number than the paddle’s own page shows.
